I saw it when I was deep into that lifestyle, and am so glad I never let it get that far. Odd thing is, I just went cold turkey, and while that sucked for about a month, constantly puking, once out of it, I never fell back into it. Over the years, I’ve a drink here and there, but I now hate the taste of it. It physically makes me nauseous to try and swallow it. I am so glad it holds no allure now.

Well, Chris T will undoubtedly revile me for this obvious statement of fact, but . . . if people want something, they WILL get it, legally or no. I don’t use banned substances, but I know that, IF I did, I could access them readily and easily. Prohibition proved to anyone who was paying attention that “banning” something people want doesn’t work. It’s an objectively stupid strategy, but some people insist on following that rabbit down the rabbit hole.
I do think we should criminalize the use of, for instance, automobiles or heavy equipment or possibly even firearms, while actively using certain drugs, proven to diminish capacity – but punish the behavior, not the inanimate object. I think the whole “Minority Report” culture we are developing is going to come back and bite us in the arse. You will not prevent nutjobs from shooting up schools by banning AR15 pattern rifles (personally, if I were ever deranged enough to want to engage in a mass shooting (hopefully I never will be), I would use a semi-auto, magazine-fed shotgun, with an open choke, and buckshot. Guarantee I could kill more people with that than with an AR15 pattern rifle. But Leftist/fascists and ‘do-gooders’ are too ideologically blinded to look at the obvious (and yes, Chris T, I’m including you AND MajorLiar in this).
“Banning” something has never done anything other than enrich organized crime. Doesn’t stop people from getting it, using it, or accessing it, it just makes stupid people able to say “Well, at least I did something!!”. Yeah, you did something stupid. Congratulations.
I am still waiting to hear about any victory in the war on drugs. One battle? One skirmish?

YES, prevent people from accessing SNAP and welfare benefits, if they insist on using illicit drugs. I’m all for blocking access to “public” benefits (i.e., funded by actual working Americans who pay taxes). But don’t pre-emptively ban people from constitutionally-protected activities without due process. No one has a “constitutional right” to sponge off the taxpayer.
