What gun control comes down to is collective punishment and blame-shifting for the inability of Democrats to competently run a handful of cities they have had uninterrupted full control over for decades, sometimes even generations. Crime is out of control under their watch, so they blame gun rights, gun companies, and neighboring red states instead of looking in the mirror.
The latest example of this is the obviously coordinated attack on GLOCK handguns. Based on the excuse of “GLOCK switches,” California is trying to ban them while other antigun states or cities are suing them.
These are the most popular pistols in the country and they’ve been around for over 40 years now with a design that has not significantly changed in that time. But in recent years, illegal GLOCK switches have begun to turn up in crime-infested cities run almost exclusively by Democrats. And when I say “turn up,” I don’t really mean hidden away and discovered at crime scenes after the fact. I mean underage teenage gang members literally post videos of themselves showing off their switch-equipped GLOCKs on social media and get hundreds of thousands of views.
The switches are illegal, as they are defined as machine guns under federal law. Teenagers possessing any gun unsupervised — switch or not — is also illegal, because they’re underage. Their faces are plastered all over the internet, and so it wouldn’t take much effort to identify them and have cops arrest them and confront their idiot parents.
Instead, antigun states and their antigun group allies try to ban GLOCK pistols or sue the company into oblivion, as if the company did something wrong because its legacy design is being illegally exploited. GLOCK even tried to address this with newer models by blocking the spot where the switches are connected. Of course, the polymer obstruction can still be defeated by someone who’s determined to install an illegal switch, so the antigun forces claim that’s not enough.
Of course, it isn’t really about the GLOCK switches at all. Antigunners salivate at the chance to ban one of the most popular handguns in the country. (Cops would be exempt of course.) Americans who live in the vast majority of the country that doesn’t have a serious crime problem or issues with illegally-modified GLOCKs can pound sand, as far as the authoritarians are concerned. It’s not really policy, it is a culture war.
Our rights shouldn’t be held hostage by the failure of Democrats to control crime in the cities they run. Baltimore, one of the cities suing GLOCK, is a perfect example. That city represents 9% of Maryland’s population, but 38% of the state’s gun-related homicide. Yeah guys, sure…GLOCK did this to you.
