That’s James Talarico, the Texas state representative who was the leader in the Democrat Senate primary. Well, he was the leader until the clownish, even farther left Dallas Congresswoman Jasmine Crocket got into the race a few months ago. Now Talarico is running behind Crocket…or not, depending on which poll you’re looking at.
Last night, a suburban Austin man identified as Ndiaga Diagne, a naturalized citizen from Senegal, opened fire in a bar on the city’s busy Sixth Street. He killed two people and wounded 14 more before being shot to death by responding APD officers. It’s reported that a Quran was found in his car and the FBI is investigating the shooting as a possible terrorist response to the attacks on Iran.
Talarico issued a statement on X, above, which included . . .

His meaning was clear, though being the sniveling politician he is, he wasn’t willing to say it out loud at first during a heated campaign. Talarico was talking in code, calling for gun control in response to a mass shooting without using problematic phrases like ‘assault weapons ban,’ ‘red flag law’ or, you know, ‘gun control.’
It isn’t hard to see why the Howdy Doody-esque former seminarian felt the need to speak in hoplophobic tongues on the topic. Openly calling for gun control in Texas hasn’t worked out well for Democrats in the state, even in the aftermath of a high profile shooting (see: Beto O’Rourke).
It hasn’t gone well for Republicans either. One of the big reasons that incumbent John Cornyn has consistently trailed his ethically challenged primary opponent, Attorney General Ken Paxton, in the polls is because of Cornyn’s successful push after Uvalde to enact the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. That was the first federal gun control law to pass in a generation. It was also a gift to Joe Biden and got Cornyn booed off the stage at the Texas GOP convention in 2022.
Texans — gun owners in particular — have never forgotten that.
Following that earlier statement, however, Talarico appeared on race hustler Al Sharpton’s little-watched weekend show and was more explicit. He seems to have decided to go all-in and got much closer to Beto’s “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47” proclamation in the video . . .

The primary is Tuesday, and Talarico’s call for restricting gun rights will probably have next to zero bearing on how Democrats vote. But if he wins the primary, it could and should dog him all the way until November. We’ll be watching.

Correction: Iran has now lost its entire command and control structure, and their entire country top leadership is gone. Trump promised amnesty for Iran’s police and military if they just lay down their arms and quit, and it appears a lot are doing that and deserting but maybe they are just blending back in to re-group for whats left of them.
