Is Trump Being Pressured to Support Texas’s Establishment Gun-Controlling Senator John Cornyn?

In a desperate attempt to salvage his political career, Senator John Cornyn and Republican establishment elites are reportedly scrambling to secure President Donald Trump’s endorsement for Cornyn in what is shaping up to be a brutal Republican primary showdown with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Attorney General Paxton recently made headlines for claiming that he can defeat Cornyn in a hypothetical match-up if he could raise $20million. And last night, Paxton officially threw his hat in the ring as a candidate to take on the incumbent senior U.S. Senator of Texas.

Cornyn, once a towering figure in the GOP establishment, is now seen by grassroots conservatives and gun owners alike as a symbol of everything wrong with Washington, D.C.

Most recently, Cornyn’s role as the architect of the so-called “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act” (BSCA) earned him the ire of millions of gun owners across the country.

That Cornyn-Biden gun control bill was the most sweeping anti-gun legislation in three decades — according to the Biden administration — with $1.4 billion being funneled into gun control causes, including $750 million that went toward state incentivizing “red flag” laws across the country — with at least $12 million being granted to Texas.

Cornyn’s BSCA also led to the creation of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, and Kamala Harris’ National “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation resource center.

But arguably one of the most egregious outcomes of the BSCA was the perceived authority it gave to the ATF to continue its war on gun owners by converting the NICS gun ban registry into a de-facto universal gun registry with their “dealer in firearms” rule.

But Cornyn’s transgressions pre-date the 2022 BSCA.

From authoring the 2017 FIX-NICS bill — which ballooned the NICS “no guns” list by nearly a million Americans per year — to voting to confirm radical anti-gunners like Attorney General Merrick Garland & Hillary Clinton, Cornyn’s record is riddled with betrayal.

“Gun owners haven’t forgotten what John Cornyn did to them,” said Chris McNutt, President of Texas Gun Rights. “He led the charge to fund Red Flag laws, attack young gun owners, and empower the Biden DOJ and ATF. He has no business pretending to be pro-gun now.”

While Trump has taken bold steps to restore Second Amendment freedoms in his second term — including firing anti-gun ATF Director Steve Dettelbach, appointing Kash Patel as Acting ATF Director, and recently placing constitutional attorney Dave Warrington in a senior role — endorsing Cornyn would undermine all of that.

By contrast, Attorney General Ken Paxton has emerged as one of the most vocal defenders of gun rights in the nation. He has used his office to push back against federal overreach and unconstitutional firearm regulations, making him a natural ally for those who want a fighter in the U.S. Senate.

“A pro-gun Senator like Ken Paxton would be a powerhouse alongside Senator Ted Cruz,” McNutt added. “We need more bold fighters in the Senate, not swamp creatures like Cornyn.”

The best-case scenario for gun owners? President Trump holds firm to his pro-2A base and only endorses a candidate who will defend the right to keep and bear arms — not regulate it into oblivion.

The worst-case? Trump bends to the GOP establishment and backs Cornyn, alienating millions of grassroots gun owners who propelled him to victory in the first place.

And while a neutral Trump could allow Paxton and Cornyn to duke it out, the risk is a brutal primary leaving the eventual nominee wounded — potentially opening the door for Democrat Colin Allred to mount a serious general election challenge.

Texas Gun Rights has not officially taken a stance on the race between Cornyn and Paxton, however, McNutt stated that “Texas Gun Rights PAC is all-in for A.B.C: Anyone But Cornyn.”

One thing is clear: the stakes are high for the future of gun rights in America — and the grassroots are watching.

  1. The real question is. Are Texas gun owners still supporting the traitor John Cornyn???

Just like the majority of gun owners in Colorado. Who support the gun grabbing proud married with children g’a’y governor of colorado.

    1. He polls better than Cornyn *with GOP voters*. I’ve not seen polling as to how each of them do statewide against a hypothetical dem opponent, but I suspect Cornyn would poll slightly better.

Don’t get me wrong, I despise Cornyn. But we have to look at facts that are, not what we wish they would be.

“That Cornyn-Biden gun control bill was the most sweeping anti-gun legislation in three decades — according to the Biden administration…”

The bill justification that Biden promptly exploited and the ATF used that ‘in the business’ part to essentially ‘murder’ an innocent man.

It wasn’t one bust, it was 14.
And it wasn’t a ‘Bust in Florida’, the seizures occurred in internationalwaters as opposed to entering the USA.

And the actual ‘offloading’ of the seized contraband occurred three weeks ago, this is just a dog and pony show for the cameras.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The U.S. Coast Guard offloaded more than 45,000 pounds of illegal drugs, mostly cocaine, at Port Everglades on Thursday, marking what officials called an “unprecedented seizure.”

The drugs, which authorities valued at more than $500 million, were intercepted during 14 separate interdictions of smuggling vessels off the coasts of Mexico, Central America and South America, according to officials“

They revealed it in Florida, not that it happened all in Florida proper.

          Collectively its a ‘bust.

          Thus…

“Pam Bondi And FBI Director Kash Patel Unveil Massive Narcotics Bust In Florida ($500 million)”

It’s called a ‘headline’ …they condense basic info into the headline, that’s how it works moron49.

          1. “They revealed it in Florida, not that it happened all in Florida proper.“

No, it was revealed three weeks before, I posted the article above.

Pam Bondi and Kash Patel just trotted down to Florida to claim credit for the work of the Coast Guard and DEA three weeks after the fact.

But I guess that is better than Donald Trump, who has never acknowledged the four American soldiers killed in Lithuania, much less attended the dignified return of our soldiers.

He was too busy golfing with his owners, the Saudis, those wonderful folks who brought you 9/11.

          2. The people of Lithuania honor our soldiers more than our own president Trump, whose priority was kissing the Saudi royal family’s ass:

“Lithuanian President President Gitanas Nausėda, government dignitaries, religious leaders, military personnel, and thousands of spectators gathered on Thursday to send the remains of four American soldiers killed during a training exercise back to the U.S. for burial. They are arriving at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Friday, and while their bodies will be received by several senators and members of the military, the commander in chief couldn’t be bothered to make the trip. He had a golf tournament to attend.

Instead of receiving the remains of the soldiers under his command, President Donald Trump will be attending a Saudi-backed LIV golf tournament at his Doral resort and golf course in Florida.”

  3. Cornyn knows the ONLY way he survives the GOP primary is if he gets PDT’s support, which he will not get if he crosses PDT.

PDT also knows / will know that. He’ll also know that if he endorses Paxton early, Cornyn has nothing to lose by going full Arlen Specter and just changing his party affiliation to D.

The master negotiator will thus hold his fire on endorsing anyone as long as possible. The possibility of eventually getting a PDT endorsement will keep Cornyn on the reservation, and indeed doing whatever PDT asks of him.

    1. There is a political reality to this. Cornyn is practically a poster child RINO on some things and reliably middle of the road on others so the President has to play this close to the vest – no outright endorsement as long as Cornyn toes the line, step over it and the other guy gets the nod. Cornyn is a slippery critter and probably thinks he can put up with PDT until the legacy media can crash his presidency. Hopefully Mr. Trump can squeeze every bit of positive action out of Cornyn for as long as he’s useful. It’s a shame Texas voters ever put this clown in office in the first place.
