The extremist anti-Second Amendment views of Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, now seeking election to the U.S. Senate, offers an alarming look at the mindset of the rising far-left wing of his party, but also the ultimate goal of the anti-gun groups which have endorsed him, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms warns.
“We have known about El-Sayed’s desire to ‘tweak’ the Second Amendment out of existence since media reports first revealed the existence of a now-blocked video he produced,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “His notion of removing the right to keep and bear arms and replacing it with a right to health care is a dangerous idea which obviously appeals to Moms Demand Action, the grassroots arm of Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety, and the Giffords PAC, both of which have endorsed his Senate candidacy.
“But even more alarming,” he continued, “is the silence from his fellow Democrats, which translates to their tacit acceptance of El-Sayed’s desire to trash the cornerstone of our Bill of Rights. Democrats who have long insisted they ‘support the Second Amendment’ should be loudly condemning their Michigan colleague’s idea for what it is, a proposal to literally shred the fabric of our national constitution. Instead, party leaders have lined up to endorse him.
“Democrats in Michigan and across the country have chosen to pretend El-Sayed’s proposal doesn’t exist even though the media reported on the video months ago,” Gottlieb observed. “But why? Is the party so desperate for power that they can consciously ignore their candidate’s extremist views regarding our most fundamental right? Obviously, they’d rather stand behind a questionable candidate than stand behind the Constitution.
“We’re not surprised that the gun prohibition lobby has endorsed El-Sayed’s candidacy,” Gottlieb stated. “After all, removing the Second Amendment from our Bill of Rights is their core purpose, and always has been. They’re just too afraid to admit it. But now they don’t have to because their endorsement takes care of that. They’ve said the quiet part out loud.”
