Gabby Giffords took to Twitter X last week to drum up support for a slate of anti-gun candidates running in the midterms across the country. She claimed that “Americans are sick and tired of the constant gun violence plaguing their communities” at a time when homicides and violent crime in America have reached historic lows over the last twelve months. But that kind of hype is hardly new.
Four years ago, Giffords confidently asserted that Bruen would lead to a surge in violent crime. Instead, homicide is now at record lows despite the biggest expansion of carry rights in American history.
They have made the same dire prediction since then repeatedly as to a number of other gun law improvements, such as Florida embracing constitutional carry. You were wrong every…single…time.
Giffords’ policy prescriptions have been completely discredited by reality.
Their top brass have also recently confirmed that they want bans, not merely “reasonable gun safety.” Both Emma Brown and Chris Harris recently admitted that NFA-registered suppressors are virtually never used in crimes. As a Californian dealing with a total state-level ban on suppressors, I asked them if that meant Giffords would call on California to end its ban, so long as the suppressors are NFA-registered. I’d be willing to register them!
Chris Harris, to his credit, honestly responded that Giffords is still fine with state-level bans on suppressors, even though he had already admitted that NFA-registered suppressors are no threat to safety.

Giffords is a gun ban organization. Safety doesn’t actually matter to them at all. It’s time to stop pretending otherwise. If we had anything approaching a serious news media, they would seriously push Gabby and the rest there on all of the above instead of uncritically quoting their rote “gun safety advocate” talking points.
This, by the way, is meant more towards the organization than Mrs. Giffords personally. At least she has been honest enough to admit that she wants gun bans. She said so herself a couple of years ago. At the same time, her organization continues to keep up the ludicrous “we just want reasonable gun laws” charade in order to make sure the donor funds flow in.
