Republicans in Congress are once again choosing the gun lobby over our lives — pushing a nearly $1.5 billion tax break for gun manufacturers by eliminating a critical safety tax on silencers. …
This is not about freedom. It’s about greed. And it’s proof – again – that these politicians don’t care about protecting America. They care about protecting the gun industry’s bottom line.
— Everytown for Gun Safety fundraising mailer
First, there is no such thing as a ‘safety tax’. This idea and term is completely 100% false.
Second, the $200.00 fee for the tax stamp went to the government. It never in any way affected any tax “for gun manufacturers” and removing it would still not affect any tax “for gun manufacturers” and would not provide even the tiniest little bit of ‘tax break’ “for gun manufacturers”
As usual, Everytown lied yet again.
I often wonder what percentage of these people is knowingly lying and scamming and what percentage is true mouth-breathing morons who believe this shit.
They belive their own lies.
Shire-man, they are too feeble for words to describe. I have met several of these types in my small town and there is absolutely no reasoning with them. Any discussion is met with a closed mind and the lever of ignorance and stupidity is mind boggling. And, it isn’t just those < 50 yrs of age, for I have encountered this in several who were 70 and 80 +.
This is true. I too have encountered these anti-gun idiots and everyone of them were are as you describe Hush.
The few that make it to the top don’t believe any of it. They might have at some point. Then they come to the realization that it’s all about power and wealth.
Before Obama became the president, he talked about personal responsibility and the lack of black men raising their children. I thought he believed that. Maybe he did, but it didn’t matter. Now I think he was performing for potential white voters. (Also see his early “views” on border security, immigration, and the deficit.) Obama was a great politician. Second term Obama wasn’t about personal responsibility. It turned into blaming racism and stoking division. He knew exactly what he was doing.
Among the followers, sure many believe every word of it. Some of that is due to ignorance and indoctrination with help from the news media and academia. But a large chunk don’t even care about the truth. It’s merely tribalism. That’s why you can’t reason with most of them.
‘Critical safety tax’ eh? Then obviously it must become gov’t policy to maximize collection of the tax. 48 hour turnaround for all applications. Repeal of 1986 law limiting full auto. Reclassification of suppressors to unregulated (but still taxed…like ammo and other stuff is). More sales, more ‘critical safety tax’ revenue. It’s only right.
