County Supervisor Karen Thinks Gun Stores Should Be Able to Read Customers’ Minds

LA County supervisor Janice Hahn wrote a letter (below) this week to the mayor of Torrance demanding that the city “strengthen gun store regulations” there. Her letter is hilarious for several reasons:

1. Her reason for demanding the stricter regulations? Would be Trump assassin Cole Thomas Allen bought a gun at Turner’s Outdoorsman store in Torrance. But what she omits, of course, is that he bought his guns legally, and nobody has presented any evidence otherwise. He was a teacher and until far leftwing radicalization fully consumed him, he was, by all accounts, a model citizen. In fact, he probably voted for Janice Hahn. So what was Turner’s supposed to do, read his mind and discover that he wanted to try to kill the President?

2. She urges Torrance to adopt regulations like those she helped pass for unincorporated LA County. Those measures include:

– Banning the sale of .50 caliber guns and ammunition…despite the fact that fifty cals were never any sort of a problem and I can’t think of any crime that involved those rounds.

– No gun dealers within 1,000 feet of “sensitive places,” as if someone is going to buy a gun, wait out the ten-day waiting period, and then, when they pick it up, decide to shoot up the school nearby (but only if it’s within 1,000 feet).

– No minors in gun stores unless accompanied by an adult. Because as you know, scores of minors buy guns in California gun stores.

– Various other redundant measures that only burden gun dealers without actually reducing crime, suc as mandating fingerprint logs (CADOJ already has that), annual sales reports (CADOJ already has that), display warning signs in stores (state law already requires that), etc.

Of course, none of those measures would have had any impact at all on Cole Thomas Allen and his gun purchase.

That’s because the point isn’t safety. It never is. It’s just about a collateral attack on your rights by trying to put gun retailers out of business.

I try to not comment on personal appearance as it really has little bearing on the issues at hand. In this case, though, I have to say that is one spectacularly unattractive haircut.

The amount to which her demands repeat what is already in place tells me something about the depths of her ignorance on the matter. It is, however, disgraceful that so many of her “bright ideas” are already in force.
