More than 700 faith and religious leaders from across the state are urging Governor Tim Walz to call a special session and for lawmakers to pass a ban on assault weapons.
“A ban on assault weapons is not a partisan issue; it is a moral one,” an Oct. 7 letter from the clergy read. “These weapons were designed for the battlefield, not for our schools and churches. They are tools of war, not peace. Their only purpose is to inflict mass casualties, to maim and destroy. Protecting lives is a sacred duty. While we cannot erase the violence that has already occurred, you can make it far more difficult for someone to obtain these weapons tomorrow.”
Referencing the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in late August, the clergy went on to say they refuse to accept that today’s children must live with the constant threat of gun violence as the new normal. Two students were killed in the Minneapolis attack, with more than 20 others people, mostly children, injured.
“We stand with the thousands of students and parents across Minnesota who are demanding action,” the letter continued. “We call on Governor Walz to immediately convene a special session, and we call on every member of the legislature to honor the lives lost by finally passing a ban on assault weapons.”

Assault weapons are already banned.
The killer used a shotgun, pistol, and MSR (AKA ‘AR-15’), all semi-auto and none of them are ‘assaut weapons’ and none of them were made for the ‘battle field’ and none of them were ‘weapons of war’.
All of them were able to be legally purchased by the mentally ill killer because he was trans. Because he was trans, in Minnesota, his mental health records were forbidden by law from being disclosed thus despite the issuing authority for the ‘permit to purchase’ knowing of disqualifying mental health issues this trans killer could not be denied the permit because the mental health records could not be used.
Tim Walz wanted and signed that into law.
These churches should be calling for Tim Walz to be banned, removed from office, and the law to be repealed because right now in Minnesota there are trans ‘groups’ with serious mental health issues that were also able to purchase because of this insane law that protects their mental illness from being disclosed and are threatening to do the same thing.
This was not the fault of any gun…this was the fault of trans, mental illness, and Tim Walz.
Minnesota has a red flag law called Extreme Risk Protection Orders, which went into effect on January 1, 2024. I believe courts have to grant the petition. People beg for these laws but don’t end up using them.
Laws, or the lack of them, aren’t the problem. The real issue is ideology. Why aren’t these religious leaders calling out the toxic left-wing ideology that leads to this behavior?
In addition…Tim Walz also, despite having billions of $$$ in surplus tax money, denied, despite them asking for funds, church schools and churches any funds for security measures, including armed ‘security’ in the form of law enforcement ‘SRO’ and armed security that would have been able to stop this mentally trans killer before he could have carried out his attack. Instead, Tim Walz spent the money on various other things, but most of the money was spent on making the state more ‘trans’ friendly for mentally ill trans from which this mentally ill trans killer benefited enabling him to kill.

Since their election loss I’ve read so many articles from leading Democrats about why they lost. So many that directly blame failed, elitist, impossible policies like ending fossil fuel use, open borders and transinsanity and saying they should adopt MAGA policies like supporting blue collar workers, industry at home and many MAHA policies like keeping poisons out of our foods.
One wonders, if the Democrats were to abandon all their unpopular positions they themselves blame for their losses and adopt a host of MAGA/MAHA positions they admit are popular and workable, what would be left?
Why have a Democrat party at all?
IMO, the main appeal of supporting Democrats is:
1) The constant promise of free stuff. A subset of this is the envy politics designed to create bitterness and hatred toward those who have more. There’s always a vague promise of taking from the rich to give to the poor. How has that worked out? The two largest transfers of wealth from the working/middle class to the upper class occurred during Obama’s and Biden’s tenures as presidents.
2) Fake civil rights fights. Traditionally, this has been the promise to liberate black people from white oppression. Lately, you can add the promise to liberate lgbtetc individuals from Christians, women from men, immigrants from citizens, etc. They even discuss the “climate crisis” and the imaginary right to abortion in terms of civil rights.
People are led to believe that Republicans hate anyone that isn’t rich, white, or straight. Therefore, unless you’re a straight white Christian male you have no choice but to support Democrats. If you have those characteristics, and you don’t support Democrats, then you’re a fascist bigot who deserves to be canceled.
Oh, and if you’re black or gay, and you don’t support Democrats, then you’re an Uncle Tom or a traitor. Democrat enforcers make sure you think twice before coming out of the closet as a Republican or even an independent thinker.
