In 2024, Kamala Harris sensed what the Overton window would tolerate, so she pretended to be pro-handgun. Specifically, she bragged about owning a GLOCK, and ignored all questions about her prior support of a total handgun ban in San Francisco.
Gavin Newsom is now looking at his own White House run in 2028, and has been saying moderate-sounding things to gaslight his audience about his actual record…without actually changing any policies.
Now the California legislature is moving forward with a ban on the sale of GLOCK handguns and all similar pistols with a cruciform trigger bar. In other words, a ban on the sale of the very sort of handgun that Kamala bragged about owning, one of the most popular handguns in the country.
If Newsom signs the bill into law, it certainly could come back to haunt him if he runs in 2028 and is wins the Dem nomination. He’ll have to try to win over much more moderate voters than the far left electorate we have here in California. I could see him trying to quietly kill this bill in the legislature behind the scenes to avoid having to deal with it, or even vetoing it as a way to pretend he isn’t the radical gun grabber he has been since taking office.
But most likely, he signs it and it’s our job will be to make sure swing state voters know it in 2028.
Of course, all efforts like this are supposedly forbidden by Heller. The media has made a big deal about Trump potentially ignoring court orders, but several anti-gun states have been openly defying Heller for years by banning common firearms, yet the media pays that no mind.
Unfortunately, our Supreme Court has thus far shown little interest in enforcing its own Second Amendment precedents. Hopefully that changes very soon.

If Newsom gets his wish and bans Glocks/clones, I hope Glock stops selling to CA entirely like Barrett did. Unfortunately, there’s too much money in the government market and Glock would never turn its back on that cash cow.
