Felony Stupid: Woman Forces Entry on Des Moines Home

There’s dumb and then there’s felony stupid. Stannita Wilson probably couldn’t spell “felony stupid” but she lived it boldly and with pride. At 46, Wilson should have known that life is harder if you make stupid choices, but bless her heart, she still tries. In this case, the questionable decision-making turned a Saturday night in Des Moines into a one-woman home invasion tour.

A homeowner, probably minding his or her own business with a cup of warm milk and a Wheel of Fortune rerun on the tube before bed, heard a shrieking lunatic in their back yard and banging on the door. That was Wilson.

Then the banging started on the back door. The far-too-polite soul unlocked it — probably because Midwestern manners, you know — and BAM, in stormed Wilson like she owned the place, acting like a violent fool and attacked the homeowner.

Fortunately, in addition to Midwestern manners, the victim was also in possession of a firearm. The un-named homeowner had grabbed it before calling 911, a move that may have saved their life.

The homeowner fired multiple shots and Wilson transformed from a violent aggressor to leaking lunatic to meek and mild in just a few seconds. “Please don’t shoot me no more,” she begged.

Cops arrived to find her still inside the home, making a mess on the carpet from several new holes that had been installed by the homeowner. Medics rolled up, applied a couple of Band-Aids and took her to the hospital.  Miraculously, Wilson’s injuries were described as minor. Running that through my universal ballistic translator results in this output: the homeowner needs to get something more potent than a .22 or .25 caliber pistol.

Thankfully this little incident didn’t play out in Cook County. The homeowner wasn’t charged and the perp, Ms. Wilson, earned herself a felony burglary charge in addition to some bad memories and some new scars.

It turned out that Wilson didn’t even know the victim. She just chose poorly.

What’s the lesson here? If you’re going to play uninvited psycho at at someone’s house, at least pick one without a gun.

As for the good guys and gals across America, this shows — once again — the utility of firearm ownership for home defense. Because you don’t pick the time, place and manner of criminal attack. Baddies do. And the only thing that stops bad people like Stannita, with evil in their hearts, is a good guy or gal with a gun.  Certainly not a “Moms Demand Action” t-shirt.

KCCI8 has more:

A 46-year-old woman is facing a felony charge after police say she forced her way into a Union Park home late Saturday night and was shot by the homeowner.

Des Moines police officers were called just before 11 p.m. to a residence in the 1500 block of Guthrie Avenue after a 911 caller reported that an intruder was attacking the homeowner. While officers were en route, the caller told dispatchers that the intruder had been shot.

When officers arrived, they found Stannita Wilson inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers provided first aid until Des Moines Fire Department rescue personnel arrived and transported Wilson to MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center for treatment…

Police said Wilson was not known to the homeowner. As of Sunday, no charges had been filed against the homeowner.
