A new bill aimed at curbing rising gun thefts throughout the state has been drawn up for lawmakers to mull and debate in the Washington Legislature.
House Bill 1152 proposes specific requirements for storing a legally owned firearm for gun owners (they would have to store their firearms in a hard case or lock the trigger in a soft case) and significant penalties if the gun is stolen. The owner of a gun that becomes stolen could face a $1,000 fine, and if the thief who stole the firearm is someone who legally cannot own a gun and commits a violent crime with said gun, the gun owner could be charged with a separate felony.
“Here’s how it works. For example, in your vehicle, if you have to have the pistol, it has to be stored and unloaded in a container that’s opaque, locked, hard-sided and fixed to the vehicle. It has to be concealed and your vehicle has to be locked. If it’s a rifle or a shotgun, it needs to be stored in a soft-sided case and have a trigger lock,” Andrew Lanier, producer of “The Gee and Ursula Show,” said on the show. “Now, if that gun is stolen, you can be liable for a fine of up to $1,000 if it is not secured. If someone steals that gun, it is a misdemeanor.
“If someone who’s not allowed to own a gun, say, a felon or a minor, steals it and gets possession, it is a gross misdemeanor,” Lanier continued in his explanation of the proposed bill. “If someone not allowed to have a gun gets your gun and commits a crime with it, say, for example, someone holds up to 7-Eleven, now it becomes a felony if your stolen gun that was unsecured was used in a crime that hurts someone else. And I need to point out a Class C felony is up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. I don’t think you would get that much, but it would also mean that you’re a felon and no longer allowed to own a gun.”
“If they’ve had property stolen from them, they’re the victim of a crime. They shouldn’t be charged for that purpose,” Jeremy Ball, owner of Sharp Shooting Indoor Range in Spokane, told KNDO. “It’s a lazy approach to solving a complicated problem.”

Pure stupidity!!!!!
There’s nothing stupid about it, it’s calculated *evil*.
The point is to make someone think twice before buying a gun…
If you want to discourage thieves, then you need a larger police presence along with aggressive prosecutors and judges.
What you need is for homeowners and victims of robberies to be absolved of all liability for protecting and defending themselves in both the court of law and civil court. Then pass out a 1 time cleaning coupon to Service Master.
When you run for President, I will vote for you.
Remember….years ago Gov. ROCKEFELLER ( in New York) made posession of marijuana a life sentence??
The police would not try to enforce the law because the same penalty applies to the killing of an officer of the law.
When laws get too strict there will be backlash!
ridiculous – and likely unconstitutional
Except liberal progressive democrats don’t abide by the Constitution or any Court ruling that doesn’t support their ideology. Even and especially the Supreme Court. That is why Anti 2A laws are consistently being taken before the Courts and ruled unconstitutional. Often the same law just worded slightly different. Tyrants aren’t deterred or defeated by a system that they refuse to accept or abide by. History has taught that stopping them requires the will, resolve, and courage of the people. 92 days until the best example of that will, resolve and courage as it pertains to our nation, our freedoms and our liberties.
So if they also steal my car and commit a crime or get into an accident can I also be held liable?
Do they fine rape victims for short skirts too?
So I will be charged as much or more than the thief and based on his criminal record possibly additional charges based on his law breaking after the theft. I got a crazy idea, make stealing a gun a crime that has mandatory ten year prison sentence, first offense. And the death penalty if a stolen gun used in a crime. Any crime, and let’s start frying these career criminals. If we start making holes , they will stop.
Chop off one digit for every felony theft after the first one. Begin with the dominant hand thumb. Watch theft rates plummet.
Sharia law does have it’s time and place.
So what I’m hearing here is this: We don’t want to punish the criminal, or even try and stop them from committing crime, as it is much easier to punish the law abiding public that supports the 2nd ammendment. They are the bad people. I would definitely be voting those crazy politicians out of office at the next election!
“So what I’m hearing here is this: We don’t want to punish the criminal, or even try and stop them from committing crime,….”
You have two things at play here, and must understand them thoroughly: ‘law’ is the root cause of all crime; criminals are victims of people who do not take action to ensure no person can harm, or steal from them. It is irresponsible residents (gun owners) who intice other people to do crimes. Thus, irresponsible residents are the ones who should bear the consequences of crime they facilitated.
So if someone posts something obscene, hateful or violent on social media using my credentials, I lose my 1A rights?
I like to look at, if my car is stolen, Now, if that CAR is stolen, you can be liable for a fine of up to $1,000 if it is not secured. If someone steals that CAR, it is a misdemeanor”.
“If someone not allowed to have a DRIVE A CAR gets your CAR and commits a crime with it, say, for example, HITS SOMEONES CAR, now it becomes a felony if your stolen CAR that was unsecured was used in a crime that hurts someone else. And I need to point out a Class C felony is up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. I don’t think you would get that much, but it would also mean that you’re a felon and no longer allowed to own a gun OR VOTE.”
That is like charging the victim in a rape crime with prostitution!

Idiots! Look up the word infringe: act so as to limit or undermine. Creating a law that undermines my right to bear arms including but not limited to firearms is an infringement on my 2nd ammendment rights. The Constitution says I can own a tank pocket knife, switchblade or f-16 if I want because they are all Arms. All gun, knife and explosive device laws are unconstitutional.
