What happens to bad guys in Texas who try to force entry upon residences while armed with a hammer? They stand a significant chance of suffering gunshot wounds. Sometimes multiple gunshot wounds. Particularly in the Lone Star State.

An unnamed man committed a profound error in the victim selection process last week in Denison, Texas. He tried to force entry into a stranger’s home located in a very rural area outside of town, while waving a hammer.

The resident, seeing an angry lunatic brandishing a hammer, urged the man to leave.  Instead, Mr. Hammer persisted. That’s when he experiences sudden-onset exsanguination.  He survived, was airlifted to a trauma center, and in critical condition. The local authorities haven’t released any names.

From KXII . . .

A Denison homeowner shot a man who came to his door and attacked him with a hammer Monday.

Grayson County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a residence on McCraw Lane east of Denison around 4:30 p.m.

The homeowner told deputies a man whom he did not know came to his door and forced entry into his home while brandishing a hammer.

As the homeowner tried to get the man to leave, he attacked the homeowner and struck him with the hammer.

The homeowner then shot the man and called authorities.

The man shot was flown by air ambulance to a hospital and is in stable, but critical condition as of Tuesday morning.

No names have been released.

Deputies say no arrests have been made, and the case remains under investigation.

The story of the armed homeowner defending himself against a potentially homicidal intruder stands in stark contrast to another recent case in the same area.

In that incident, a 66-year-old man stabbed his roommate to death following some sort of altercation. Bobby Jones, 81, died of his wounds. Unlike the resident in the first story, he didn’t have a gun handy when trouble came a-calling. Cops arrested the 66-year-old roomie, Milton Austin, and charged him with murder.

Also from KXII . . .

According to Denison police, officers were called to a home in the 500 block of West Hanna Street around 3 a.m. by Milton Austin, 66, who said he had stabbed his roommate, Bobby Jones, 81

Upon arrival at the scene, officers located Austin who was subsequently detained.

Upon entering the home, officers located Jones deceased in his room from apparent stab wounds.

It just goes to show that having self-defense tools readily accessible can make a life-or-death difference when trouble rears its ugly head.

The only thing that stops a bad guy with evil in his heart is a good guy (or gal) with a gun…  one that’s in hand, not locked away in a safe somewhere else in the house.

Too bad it wasn’t catastrophic sudden-onset exsanguination.

    Thanks, I needed a good *snicker* this afternoon… 😉

  2. When all you have is a hammer…Everything looks like a nail. When your attacker has a hammer…All you see is the 10 ring.
