At the heart of Harry and Meghan’s woes is a dispute over a legal system which prohibits private armed security. In the U.S., private armed security is legal and is an enormous industry in itself. More than 1.28 million security guards work across America and, subject to the law, many can legally work armed. In Britain, self-defense is not a legally permitted reason to obtain a firearm, and even American FBI agents must get special permission from the government to carry.
There are plenty of reasons to be skeptical of Harry and Meghan’s complaints about their overall treatment in Britain, but on security, they do have a reason to be concerned. Harry can hire private security, but those guards not only lack access to intelligence—British law prevents those guards from carrying the firearms that would allow them to provide comparable armed protection.
The question raised is bigger than the royal family. If an individual faces a credible threat and is willing to pay for highly trained, vetted private security, why should the government prevent them from doing so? Like America, Britain ought to allow the creation of a security market. The U.K. does not have to make taxpayers foot the bill for Harry and Meghan’s security, but neither should it maintain a monopoly on the kind of protection they are allowed to buy.

Its not often that medical mal-practice makes the news. The medical establishment pretty much covers it up by use of legal tactics, NDA’s, settling out of court quietly with an agreement to never speak of it, insiders not talking out of loyalty, and of course some good old ‘hand massaging’ of information and quiet discussions because most left wing large media outlets are also invested either directly or indirectly in the medical establishment.
Sometimes the mal-practice is due to human error, sometimes its intentional-error, sometimes its incompetence, and sometimes its malice intent. But what ever the reason, the result is always the same because the result is always that the ‘patient’ suffers for it in some way and sometimes have their lives taken from them because of it.
But, there is data reporting and there are ~400,000 medical mal-practice incidents annually and ~250,000 patients die as a result either directly or indirectly (i.e. the mal-practice caused an existing condition to worsen and the main cause of death reported is the existing condition, but what’s not reported in cause of death is the mal-practice that caused the condition to worsen unto death). Medical mal-practice is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. behind heart disease and cancer. The medical establishment calls this ‘medical error’, not mal-practice, but if we place their ‘medical error’ phrasing in context the medical establishment has a 50% error rate that results in death. Compared to ‘gun use errors’ by law abiding people carrying a firearm legally either permitted or permit-less carry, a ‘medical error’ is more than 2,000,000 times more likely to happen than a law abiding gun owner accidentally shooting someone else or their selves.
But when a medical mal-practice incident does make the news, its usually a doozy ….
