Gun owners in America just dodged a bullet. After days of tense political theater, the U.S. Senate finally voted to end the government shutdown without nuking the filibuster, the single rule that stands between freedom and federal gun control.
In a dramatic turn, eight Senate Democrats broke ranks and joined Republicans to reach the 60-vote threshold needed to advance the funding bill. That moment proved something that many in Washington refuse to admit: the filibuster works.
A Crisis Barely Averted
Late last week, calls to terminate the filibuster echoed from the White House and across social media on X:
“Just say NO (Nuclear Option!). TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER!”
President Trump doubled down shortly thereafter, publicly urging Republicans to scrap the 60-vote rule to “end the stalemate” and “sail to victory.”
Texas Gun Rights fired back: “Horrible take. Not no, but HELL no!” The National Association for Gun Rights also chimed in: “Don’t fall for the ‘nuclear option’….If the filibuster dies, every gun control scheme the Left dreams up could be fast-tracked into law if Dems take the Senate. The filibuster is the only thing standing between you and gun control.”
Even Gun Owner of America’s Erich Pratt said: “Eliminating the filibuster might help one party score a short-term political win, but the second Democrats regain control, they’ll use that same power to wipe out every pro-gun protection we’ve fought to preserve.”
They’re all right: eliminating the filibuster might solve a short-term political problem, but would unleash a long-term war on gun rights. Without the filibuster, Democrats could one day ram through a national “assault-weapons” ban, impose magazine capacity limits, expand red flag confiscation laws, and resurrect universal background check mandates…all without needing a single Republican vote.
The so-called nuclear option wouldn’t have just reopened the government, it would have dismantled the firewall that has protected gun owners for generations.
Texas Gun Rights Mobilized — and It Worked
As the pressure campaign to nuke the filibuster mounted, Texas Gun Rights went to work. President Chris McNutt and his team mobilized thousands of gun owners across the Lone Star State, urging them to contact Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz with a simple message: Do not nuke the filibuster — protect the Second Amendment.
Within hours, inboxes and phone lines in Washington lit up. Grassroots Texans made it clear that destroying the Senate’s 60-vote rule was non-negotiable. And when the vote came, the filibuster survived.
“Gun owners just saved their own freedom,” McNutt said after the vote. “The same political class that’s been trying to ban AR-15s was about to hand them a procedural shortcut. Thanks to grassroots pressure, that didn’t happen.”
The Filibuster: A Firewall for Freedom
For decades, the filibuster has been the final check against sweeping federal gun control. It’s the reason there is no national registry. It’s the reason “assault-weapons” bans haven’t become law. It’s the reason gun owners still have breathing room in a Washington that’s increasingly hostile to the Second Amendment.
Even House Speaker Mike Johnson has called the filibuster a “critical safeguard” against runaway majorities and the events of the past week just proved him right.
Once you hit the nuclear button, there’s no turning it off. The same tool that’s blocked the gun confiscation agenda for decades will be gone forever.
When that day comes, they won’t stop at “assault weapons.” There will be nothing to stop future Congresses from ramming through red flag confiscation laws or even repealing constitutional carry nationwide. “You don’t hand your enemy a loaded weapon and trust them not to pull the trigger” McNutt said. “If Republicans kill the filibuster today, the left will use that same weapon tomorrow to destroy the Second Amendment.”
The Fight Isn’t Over
The system held — but barely. Gun owners across Texas and the nation showed that when they engage, politicians listen.
If the filibuster had been scrapped, the Senate’s next liberal majority could have erased decades of pro-gun progress in a single vote. Instead, Americans were reminded that vigilance works, pressure works, and grassroots action still matters.
For now, the filibuster stands — and so does the Second Amendment. But this near-miss should serve as a warning. Every future attempt to nuke the filibuster must be vigorously opposed, no matter which party proposes it or what temporary political gain they promise. Gun owners can’t trade long term freedom for short term convenience.
Just a few months ago, during the BBB thing, there was an article from ‘Texas Gun Rights’ basically screaming ‘Yes! Nuke the filibuster!’ to get gun stuff in the BBB because everyone was mad at the parliamentarian.

“Gun Rights Crisis Averted”
No, it isn’t according to democrat strategist James Carville. (He successfully ran Clinton’s presidential campaign).
He’s on recent video stating the very next time they are in power, they will kill the filibuster, and pack the SCotUS, among other things, to insure we never take power again. Going as far as turning Puerto Rico and another territory into states that will reliably vote Leftist Scum ™.
It will be our job to finish turning the Latino vote reliably Right, and we’re on track to do just that over the next few election cycles.
They will pull every dirty trick in the book to do all this stuff, and invent a few new ones.

A Moldovan woman convicted of torturing and tossing a victim to their death from a ninth-floor window was arrested by US immigration officials – years after she fled her home country to avoid justice and was let into the US.
Victoria Sorocean was arrested in Los Angeles by US Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) on Nov. 4 after officials learned she was wanted in Moldova for a grisly murder, Fox News reported.
Sorocean and an accomplice were found guilty that year of beating a victim with a stick and an electrical cable, then chucking their battered body from the window of an apartment building on to the pavement below.
The Eastern European was convicted of premeditated murder with exceptional cruelty in 2013, and sentenced to 17 years in prison.
But she escaped Moldova to dodge justice, and made her way to the US instead.
So, when she got here, the Trump administration snatched her up in 2020. According to Bill Meluguin, she used all the legal dodges in her immigrant handbook to drag out being sent back, and then she got the biggest present of all – Joe Biden’s election.
