You Can Afford American Tactical’s New 14-Round .45 ACP Double Stack 1911(ish) Pistol

Back at the SHOT Show in January, American Tactical showed off a new double stack .45 ACP 1911 pistol they call the FXH-45DS Moxie. It’s an update to AT’s FXH-45 single stack gun. They promised a 5-inch version and a 4-inch commander size.

Double stack 1911s aren’t much of a novelty any more, but this one is…different. Not only is it chambered in .45 rather than 9mm, as most popular double stack 1911s are, it takes standard reasonably-priced, widely available P14 magazines and uses GLOCK-pattern sights.

American Tactical promised the new double stack pistol would be very reasonably priced. We know. You just said, “Must be more Turkish crap,” while gritting your teeth and sneering derisively. Nope.

American Tactical is making the FXH-45DS right here in South Carolina. How much is this US-made double stack, you ask? AT lists it for $699. That’s about half the price of just about any other American-made double stack 1911 pistol.

Like their original single stack FXH-45, the DS double stack version is a hybrid, using a steel reinforced polymer frame. And while it certainly looks familiar, its styling is only sort of 1911-ish. That’s either a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your particular POV.

Anyway, we have one headed our way for a full review. Don’t touch that dial.
