I recently bought my first (of many) handgun (Walther PDP Pro!) and I don’t regret it one bit. I live in a very conservative area and I’ve heard some deeply alarming things said to me in a completely casual way and I felt that I needed a way to protect myself and my wife. That part I’m not torn on.
The part that gives me pause is how every aspect of gun ownership and culture is so overwhelmingly right-wing coded that it starts feeling disgusting just being a part of it. The stupid macho nonsense, the marketing playing to deranged paranoia (there are marauders around every corner! Fear! Be scared! Buy our products!), the general gun-humping vice signaling (seriously, why are people sending Christmas cards where everyone in the family is holding guns. What’s the connection?), even the overuse of the word “tactical.”
I was watching a YouTube video the other day with some beginner tips that was otherwise neutral, and some of the comments were completely unhinged. It seemed like a bizarre mismatch but when I looked up the guy it turns out he’s a Christofascist nutjob and I was disappointed yet again.
Honestly I’m not even sure what point I’m trying to make, I guess I’m just rambling. I’m glad this sub exists because otherwise it feels very lonely to be pro-gun and also be a leftist.

Although Trump is mentioned in the Epstein files, so are, overall, thousands of others. Even Trump himself back in 2016 said he was mentioned in the Epstein files. Its not a secret and its not a coverup. And Congress did proceed with releasing the Epstein files and they are available on a web site release set up by the DOJ to release them, there is absolutely zero in the Epstein files that shows Trump did anything wrong. And Trump did not block release of the Epstein files or cover up anything, in fact he ordered release of the files and had for years been pushing for them to be relased.
On the other hand, the Clintons and some other democrat politicians have some explaining to do about their in person activity interaction with Epstein and the victims. Seriously, what president got invited and went to Epstein Island specifically while an sex-party was planned and took place, takes pictures in a pool on Epstein Island with the very girls that were sexually assaulted at that party, and stays for the length of the party, then basically says later when asked about it “Who me? Never been to Epstein Island” – oh wait…that was Bill Clinton. And oh yeah, what president had the Epstien files and did not release them and even tried to hide them at various FBI field offices – oh wait, that was Joe Biden. President Donald Trump has NOT “violated federal wall by not releasing millions of document documents in the Epstein files”. In fact they have been released based upon his order to do so. The only ones not released, but will be, are the ones still involved with Congress investigation and it is in compliance with law for Congress (and in some cases the DOJ) to withhold those because they are evidence involved in an official investigation.

Which means those files were released, those 10 being complained about, they were just redacted and the judge wants the un-redacted versions instead.
The files are redacted in compliance with federal law, which means that the DOJ did comply with law by releasing those redacted files in compliance with Trumps order and to release the files.
Now the other clincher about releasing the Epstein files in compliance with law that shows you do not know what you are talking about and are a liar – except for redacting in compliance with law and complying with FOIA requests under law (both of which were followed in compliance with those applicable laws), there is actually no law which required the Epstein files to be released to the public by Trump or the DOJ – so again on this point stop lying about Trump violating the law in regards to releasing the Epstein files. Trump ordered them released exercising the law that allows him to do so. But when it got discovered the files contained some unsavory activity of democrat politicians Congress (including democrats) put a hold on releasing them immediately but have since done so via the DOJ which has posted them on a web site for public access. On the other hand, Biden could have also ordered them released but didn’t, and now we know why and that why is because they contained this unsavory activity by democrat politicians, then Biden tried to hide them in various FBI field offices which is a little thing called ‘obstruction of justice’ which is a violation of law because the files were involved in an official investigation because the investigation was still open. Yet for some reason you never complained about Biden’s actual violation of law for the Epstein files and never demanded they be released by Biden.
So you see Miner49er – Trump has complied with the law all through this Epstein files thing. In fact, he is the only President so far that has actually ordered them released.

There is a commonality here and it’s self protection. Which is nothing to be ashamed of. Firearms much like fire extinguishers are life saving devices.
Every group will have extremists both domestic and abroad. You don’t have to fit in a mold as a gun owner. Remember most gun owners careless what others think. They are not looking for acceptance or inclusion. They want to be left alone.
Other gun owners would probably agree on the over use of the word tactical. In fact we often use the phrase tacti-cool to make fun of how much tactical gets used.

I have most definitely noticed a LARGE influx of “alternative lifestyles” at my local range.
