Kennesaw’s gun law plainly states: “In order to provide for and protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants, every head of household residing in city limits is required to maintain a firearm, together with ammunition.” …
For some, the law is a source of pride, a nod to the city’s embrace of gun culture.
For others, it’s a source of embarrassment, a page in a chapter of history they wish to move beyond.
But the main belief amongst the townsfolk about the gun law is that it keeps Kennesaw safe.
Patrons eating pepperoni slices at the local pizza parlour will propose: “If anything, criminals need to be concerned, because if they break into your home, and you’re there, they don’t know what you got.”
There were no murders in 2023, according to Kennesaw Police Department data, but there were two gun-involved suicides.
Blake Weatherby, a groundskeeper at the Kennesaw First Baptist Church, has different thoughts on why violent crime might be low.
“It’s the attitude behind the guns here in Kennesaw that keep the gun crimes down, not the guns,” Mr Weatherby said.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s a gun or a fork or a fist or a high heel shoe. We protect ourselves and our neighbours.”
— Brandon Drenon in The US Town Where It’s the Law to Own a Gun
Brits are envious of our level of freedom.
No they aren’t… Thats why they continue to elect politicians who deny them the ability to protect and defend themselves from the very criminals those same politicians allow to prey on them. The British people have never enjoyed the Freedoms that ‘We the people’ enjoy so they have nothing to base jealousy on. They have always been either subjects of either the Crown or the government and always will be because they like many in our country lack the courage to attain anything else.
The conservative base there is the minority, but it’s growing.
You’re absolutely right! Not only the UK but most of Europe as well. Which is a strange conundrum considering their history!
England has far more violent crime than the United States. It use to be the reverse.
That is until the English decided to flood their own country with violent immigrants.
People are beginning to notice how stupid and destructive left wing policies can be. This is happening throughout the West, AKA Christendom.
Like the Americans have done here you mean??? Yep, thought so.
Gun crime has gone up exponentially in England. Glad it’s contained there and not throughout all of the UK
“The BBC Tries to Comprehend Americans Who Take Armed Self Defense Seriously”
Yeah, well, the British have been trying to comprehend Americans ever since we kicked their sorry tyrannical butts in the Revolutionary War.
The U.K. today only exists today because there are “Americans Who Take Armed Self Defense Seriously”, it was called WWII. Had it not been for “Americans Who Take Armed Self Defense Seriously”, the official language of the U.K. today would be German.
That’s very disrespectful to all the military who fought and who died for the UK. I’m an ex Pat living in the US this past 27 years and I really can’t believe you wrote such an ignorant comment. I support the military on both sides of the pond, and I’ve carried Concealed for 20+ years.
There’s absolutely no need for you to get on your narcissistic soap box.
Absolutely LOVE it! I wish it was mandatory in my State too. It ALMOST is in our rural town and valley. You’d be VERY surprised who carrie’s here. Never underestimate.
It keeps everyone civil, polite and respectful.
Maybe you should mention how many total suicides there were in 2023 in Kennesaw for true and fair reporting. As I recall, people can’t use anything to defend themselves in the Island Nation. They were duped by their overreaching government into believing that without guns they would be safe. Yet, they are a violent society as seen with assaults (compared to Europe), child crimes, and others.
People will commit suicide in other ways. I suspect that there are suicides in the UK that occur, one would assume, without guns. CO poisoning with car exhaust, drug overdose, hanging, cutting one’s self with knives, etc. The same goes for murder. The difference is that there are many more people in the U.S. than in the Island Country and its subject locations. Apples and Oranges.
Hmm is anyone else having problems with the pictures on thisblog loading? I’m trying to figure out if its a problem on my end or if it’s the blog.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
