Mossberg has released a new line of Patriot Carbine rifles, in both short and long actions, and they’re all coming factory threaded for a suppressor. Currently there are 41 states in the union that allow hunting with suppressors. Mossberg is looking to make the cost of entry more palatable for the consumer, without sacrificing quality or features.
The Patriot Carbine models are based on the same action used by the rest of the Patriot line, since its introduction in 2015. This is a push-feed bolt action, with two opposed locking lugs on a spiral fluted bolt. The bolt handle is oversized to aid in cycling the action quickly even while wearing gloves. What used to be expensive custom touches to rifles, Mossberg has included as standard in the Patriot line.
The barrels are a medium-bull contour that’s factory threaded and include a thread protector. Thread pitch is dependent on caliber, but the most common thread pitches are employed for each caliber diameter. The end user won’t have any issues fitting the muzzle device appropriate for their suppressor. As every good shooter knows, barrels are key to accuracy.
The Patriot Carbine’s carbon-steel barrels are free-floated, and feature a match crown cut at 11 degrees. Going further to make things easier on the consumer, they all include a standard receiver-mounted Picatinny rail. That makes hanging glass off of the Patriot Carbine as easy as it gets.
The Patriot Carbines are a little shorter and lighter than the standard Patriot models. The weights range from 6.2 pounds to 6.5 pounds, caliber dependent. Barrel lengths are 16.25” up to 20”.
The Patriot Carbine’s are all fed from a polymer detachable box magazine, with capacity being either 3+1 or 4+1, depending on caliber case size. With the synthetic stock, and included sling swivel studs, this should make for a handy and compact package for chasing game.
Calibers are .22-250 Rem, .308 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor, 450 Bushmaster, 350 Legend, 6.5 PRC, .300 Win Mag and 7mm PRC. The one that’s particularly interesting to this gun-nerd is the .308 Win model with a 16.25” barrel. That should make an exceptional walking-around gun.
MSRP on all Patriot Carbine models is $500. That should put them at a street price in the low to mid-$400’s. The Mossberg Patriot Carbine is a feature rich rifle that is attainable by the average shooter and hunter. Visit www.mossberg.com for more specs and info.
I kind of got excited for a moment seeing this line of rifles come with threaded barrels stock from the factory. Then I saw their price: I can thread the barrels on my existing rifles for 1/3rd that price which is exactly what I am going to do.
