John Cornyn Bet Texas Voters Would Forget His BSCA Gun Control Betrayal…He May Be Right

Real Clear Politics Texas Senate race

The criticism [of Senator John Cornyn for pushing the BSCA] was immediate.

In short order, the Texas GOP formally rebuked Cornyn, President Donald Trump called him a “RINO,” gun rights groups demanded he apologize for calling party delegates who booed him a “mob” — and the most consequential gun-related legislation the nation has passed in a generation became attached to Cornyn’s legacy.

Now critics are turning up the heat on Cornyn as he faces two primary challengers in what is shaping up to be the fight of his career. They accuse Cornyn of capitulating to Democrats’ gun control demands and turning his back on gun owners — even though the bill largely did not restrict gun owner’s existing rights and was supported by a host of law enforcement groups.

The bill made it easier to remove guns from people threatening to kill themselves or others, as well as people who have committed domestic violence; clarified who needed to register as a federal firearms dealer; and earmarked $11 billion for mental health services and another $2 billion for community-based antiviolence programs.

“This is an issue that divides much of the country, depending on where you live, and maybe divides people living in the same household,” the state’s senior senator said when the bill advanced out of the Senate. “But I think we have found some areas where there’s space for compromise and we’ve also found that there are some red lines and no middle ground.”

Regardless, Second Amendment loyalists, including his two challengers, say Cornyn betrayed them.

  1. “even though the bill largely did not restrict gun owner’s existing rights …”

    Who told that lie.

I’d say it being interpreted as requiring a license to sell your own personal property or the ATF will raid your home with a tactical team in the dark and murder you…is a very large restriction on gun owners rights.

    1. “even though the bill largely did not restrict gun owner’s existing rights and was supported by a host of law enforcement groups.”

This is disingenuous, saying it like that makes it seem as if it had very wide support of law enforcement groups – it didn’t.

the whole thing was written so it could be interpreted any way the Biden admin wanted to. For example, that ‘in the business’ thing was interpreted as meaning even making a profit of $1.00 on selling your own personal property gun would require an FFL license, and the ATF used that to murder Bryan Malinowski and the only reason it was ‘justified’ is that ‘qualified immunity’ concept when in reality ATF created the conditions for their use of deadly force and if I had done that it would be called ‘murder’. With zero actual probable cause and zero actual evidence of a crime the ATF got a ‘fishing expedition’ search warrant then murdered Bryan Malinowski plain and simple, because of this bill. (and heck, the ATF didn’t even identify themselves as law enforcement when they broke through the door in the dark with no visible markings looking exactly like a criminal home invasion, thus created the condition where Bryan tried to defend his wife and self and home from what looked exactly like a criminal home invasion in the dark and the ATF shot and killed – the ATF created the conditions under which they were prompted to use deadly force, that’s illegal and a murder charge for anyone but those with ‘qualified immunity’.

This bill was the largest threat to gun owners rights, they could use it to violate your 4th Amendment rights with no due process, your 2A rights, not require any actual probable cause or actual evidence, then literally murder you and get away with it – because they said so. Cornyn knew exactly what the bill said and how it would be used, he helped write it.

“even though the bill largely did not restrict gun owner’s existing rights” is a 100% pure lie. It is a very large and egregious ‘restriction’ of “gun owner’s existing rights”, and the democrats are praying the law does not get struck down or done away with because they want it there as their excuse if they get power again and they will use it exactly as the Biden admin did to violate constitutional rights including the right to life if they want.

  2. …earmarked $11 billion for mental health services and another $2 billion for community-based antiviolence programs.

Dems love their white collar welfare programs. They’re a major source of political power for them.

Cornyn’s no dummy. He got something valuable for taking this risk. What was it?

  3. President Auto Pen caught: New Bombshell Report on Biden’s Autopen Use Just Dropped.

‘Joe Biden WAS NOT running the show.

Our new report EXPOSES how Biden’s decline was real and his aides covered it up.

Aides didn’t even know WHO was operating the autopen to sign official documents and pardons.

Watch the truth they tried to bury 👇🏻’

‘The investigation revealed holes in the chain of custody of the president’s decision binder, which contained decision memos to be signed or initialed by President Biden when approving or disapproving executive actions, as well as numerous instances in which the president’s approval for an executive action or the chief of staff’s approval of signature by autopen was not memorialized. Among the most flagrant of these instances are the clemency actions taken in the final days of the Biden presidency, which not only lacked a decision memo, but also raised serious concerns from President Biden’s own Department of Justice ethics attorneys about whether ‘the President was aware of the [criminal] backgrounds when making clemency decisions’ involving violent convicted criminals,’ it continues.

According to Oversight Chairman James Comer, executive actions taken by Biden through the autopen are ‘null and void.’

‘The Biden Autopen Presidency will go down as one of the biggest political scandals in U.S. history. As Americans saw President Biden’s decline with their own eyes, Biden’s inner circle sought to deceive the public, cover-up his decline, and took unauthorized executive actions with the autopen that are now invalid,’ Comer released in a statement.

  4. John Cornyn is a Rino Swamp Creature who does not represent Texas Republicans, or conservatives. Time to retire, voluntarily or not.

  5. Cornyn’s been a solid pro gun vote for a LONG time. The problem with “idealogical purity” is that eventually no one is “pure enough” and they consume one another. Paxton is pure poison. He WILL lose the Senate seat for Texas in a general election, I guarantee it, and maybe even the entire Senate. Then what are you gonna be left with regarding protection of 2A? We’d be morons to nominate Paxton here in Texas. Think people.
