Firearms Policy Coalition warned of a new Trump Administration strategy to block enforcement of constitutional rights.
In its recent brief in Elite Precision Customs v. ATF — FPC’s Second Amendment lawsuit challenging the federal ban on purchasing handguns outside a person’s state of residence — the Department of Justice argued that, if FPC is successful in striking down the law, the court should enter an extremely narrow injunction that would leave the unconstitutional law in place for everyone except two individuals and one Texas firearms retailer, allowing them to continue denying millions of peaceable people their right to keep and bear arms.
“If the Court grants an injunction, that injunction should extend no further than to bar enforcement of any laws the Court deems unconstitutional against the named plaintiffs specifically identified in the complaint,” the Trump Administration argues in its brief. “Because the [FPC] has not identified any of its members other than the named plaintiffs, the government would have no way to know whom an injunction restricting enforcement of the challenged laws covers.”
“The Trump DOJ’s scheme would gut nearly every lawsuit against the federal government unless and until the Supreme Court steps in,” said FPC President Brandon Combs. “This isn’t just a threat to Second Amendment supporters — it’s a threat to every American. The Trump Administration must stop playing keep-away with constitutionally protected rights and put an end to this misguided strategy to obstruct justice.”

The legal situation surrounding Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an illegal alien from El Salvador, continues to rack up twists and turns. But while his Friday release from jail seemed like a big victory, a new development has completely changed the game.
Originally deported by the Trump administration to his home country in early 2025, the case immediately drew national attention. A pre-existing non-removal order became a point of legal contention, with a judge ordering Abrego Garcia returned after he had already left the United States.
That didn’t happen at the time because he was already under the authority of El Salvador, which wasn’t keen to send its own citizen back to America as an illegal immigrant. Things got really interesting, though, when it was revealed that not only had Abrego Garcia allegedly beaten his wife and been a member of MS-13, but he had also had a run-in with the Tennessee Highway Patrol for alleged human smuggling. All the while, Democrats and the national press kept treating him as an innocent victim, comically labeling him as just a “Maryland father.”
The Trump administration eventually decided that bringing Abrego-Garcia back to face criminal charges was the right move, and on Friday, a Tennessee judge decided to release the illegal immigrant back to Maryland on bail. As it turns out, petitioning the court for release appears to have been a big mistake.
According to immigration reporter Bill Melugin, the ICE is already moving to not only detain Abrego Garcia, but to deport him to Uganda.

In a ruling that allows the Trump administration to move ahead with cutting millions of dollars in National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants, Gorsuch slapped back at a lower court, writing in an opinion that it was the ‘third time in a matter of weeks’ that the Supreme Court was forced to reverse a lower court ruling on an issue they had already ruled on.

Pete Hegseth Authorizes Arming National Guard in D.C.
“The District of Columbia is a quieter and safer place now than it was a week ago, thanks in no small part to the surge of federal law enforcement and National Guard troops into the city. Homeless encampments have been cleaned up, hundreds of goblins have been arrested, and people can once more walk the streets of our national capital without too much worry about being mugged.
The National Guard, of course, plays a big role in this cleanup. On Friday, in what can only be described as an interesting move, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has authorized 2,000 National Guard troops deployed to the nation’s capital to be armed if their mission requires it.

The National Guard troops, armed or not, will remain in a support role, not an enforcement role. Their orders, however, do allow them to detain malefactors long enough to turn them over to law enforcement.
‘The Interim Commanding General of the D.C. National Guard retains the authority to make any necessary force posture adjustments in coordination with the D.C. Metropolitan Police and Federal law enforcement partners. The D.C. National Guard remains committed to safeguarding the District of Columbia and serving those who live, work, and visit the District,’ the official added.
The troops could start carrying weapons in the coming days, though they will not be able to make arrests. Additionally, they will still be under orders to temporarily detain people if needed before transferring them to law enforcement as soon as possible.
Regardless of progress made in recent days, the District remains a troubled place. It seems logical that the National Guard troops, who are in the profession of arms even if they do so part-time, should be armed, for self-defense if nothing else. And, we hasten to note, there is a qualifier in the statement: ‘…if their mission requires it.’ So far, there is no information on what missions may or may not require the troops to be armed, but it’s not an across-the-board issue of weapons for all of the National Guard soldiers.

FORT MILL, SC — A violent confrontation in the early morning hours of July 27 ended in a fatal shooting at a Motel 6 on Carowinds Boulevard, prompting a joint investigation by the York County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) and the Sixteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office. Authorities have announced that no charges will be filed against the driver involved, citing self-defense.
Deputies with the YCSO responded at approximately 3:32 a.m. to reports of a shooting in the motel parking lot. On arrival, they found a male victim, later identified as Kendale Richardson Williams of North Carolina, deceased from a single gunshot wound. The shooting suspect, a ride-share driver, was detained at the scene pending further investigation.
According to a detailed statement from the YCSO, Williams had booked a ride to the Motel 6 through a ride-booking service. Upon arrival at the location and while still seated in the vehicle, Williams attacked the driver with a stun gun and attempted to strangle him. The driver, who was legally armed, responded by firing one shot, striking Williams.
