Texas Senator John Cornyn shocked gun owners across the country this week after denying any involvement in helping pass Biden’s signature gun control bill—the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA)—despite his well-documented leadership role in getting it across the finish line in 2022.
In a viral exchange on X (formerly Twitter), Cornyn dismissed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s criticism by accusing him of “shooting blanks.” That’s when Texas Gun Rights fired back:
Speaking of shooting, do you remember when you teamed up with Biden to spearhead gun control legislation?
Cornyn responded with a one-word denial: “No.”
The backlash was immediate and fierce.
“Perhaps at 73, Cornyn is starting to share more than just policy blunders with Biden,” said TXGR President Chris McNutt. “That creeping forgetfulness might explain why he’s also in denial about those abysmal polls showing AG Paxton wiping the floor with him. Texas Gun Rights is happy to remind Cornyn — and all pro-gun Texans — of his blunders.”
Social media users flooded the replies with receipts, memes, and reminders of Cornyn’s own public statements. Even popular pro-gun influencer Brandon Herrera, who is once again challenging Rep. Tony Gonzales (TX-23), blasted Cornyn and Gonzales as the reason Biden’s gun control passed:
“You and @RepTonyGonzales can try to run from your anti-gun record all you want, but we remember what you did,” Herrera posted. “You and Tony are the reason Biden’s anti-gun bill passed, and are an embarrassment to Texas.”
Cornyn was booed by more than 8,000 delegates at the 2024 Texas GOP convention, and now faces rising grassroots opposition heading into the 2026 Republican primary. Both Texas Gun Rights PAC and National Association for Gun Rights PAC have already endorsed Paxton for U.S. Senate.
“Gun owners don’t forget betrayal,” said McNutt. “And they’re ready to make sure Cornyn never forgets 2026.”

Never ceases to amaze me how in an age where everything they do and say is recorded and able to be played back anytime, anywhere they still default to denial, deflection and deception.
And it’s okay because their faithful followers accept and defend it and their detractors, who do not matter in the slightest to their faithful, waste effort moving air to say “see, look, he’s lying!”
He knows all voters don’t keep up with these things that aren’t talked about that much on the news. Admitting you were wrong about something is political death. All he has to do is win the primary, and his constituents will vote for the Republican, whoever that is. Most people don’t pay attention to the primaries.

According to SLI, left-wing actors are able to accomplish this feat through the use of ‘national associations of state officials,’ which often masquerade themselves as ‘nonpartisan’ while advancing ‘progressive governance.’ In turn, these organizations ‘issue policy templates, draft regulations, broker federal grants, and shape the internal culture of government agencies’ — all of which SLI notes are ‘rarely scrutinized by voters or elected officials, but … are treated as gospel by career bureaucrats.’

Then after it was passed, in reference to the vague undefined “predominantly earn a profit” in the bill (that resulted in hundreds of innocent people and their children being terrorized by ATF thugs and one innocent man murdered by the ATF) ; Cornyn said in a joint statement with North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis. “This rule has long been on Democrats’ wish list, and for the Biden administration to say it’s a result of our school safety and mental health law is a shameless attempt to hide their real goal: to take away the firearms of every law-abiding American, … We will fight this unconstitutional rule tooth and nail, and look forward to overturning it in the Senate as soon as possible.”
