Democrat Cash Machines – AKA Teachers Unions – Funding the Push for More Gun Control

It’s never surprising when political activists – especially those supporting extreme gun control – exploit a horrific tragedy to push their agenda. It’s disgusting every time, but it’s not surprising any more.

Leave it to the leader of one of the nation’s largest unions, the American Federation of Teachers, to go all-in on that anti-gun agenda. At the same time, a new report reveals that that union’s membership overwhelmingly donates huge piles of campaign cash – nearly $50 million – to major political groups bent on electing Democratic officials who will support an agenda of infringing on the Constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans.

This revelation is, of course, not surprising to the firearm industry. We’ve seen this for years. But the details put an exclamation point on just how far they will go and how much they will spend to take away rights from Americans, while continuing to ignore criminals.

Call for Ban

It didn’t take long after a deranged murderer attacked students and teachers attending a school-wide mass at Annunciation Catholic Church for Randi Weingarten – the president of AFT – to call for a complete and total national ban of modern sporting rifles. The investigation is ongoing, but law enforcement has stated the murderer used a semiautomatic rifle, a shotgun and a handgun during the tragedy.

Like clockwork, Weingarten lied about firearms and law-abiding gun owners while making her immediate call to ban lawful and commonly owned guns.

“There are more guns on the streets than we have people. And the principal cause of death for kids is these kind of killings,” Weingarten told MSNBC’s Chris Jansing, according to The Daily Caller. “We have to fight for a nationwide assault weapons ban. Part of that fight is to create a culture that human life means more than a gun culture… but we cannot normalize this.”

Weingarten’s suggestion that law-abiding gun owners don’t value human life is disgusting and should be retracted. The firearm industry has championed numerous programs and initiatives to promote safe and responsible gun ownership for decades, all while protecting Constitutional rights. And her call for a nationwide ban on an entire class of firearms is blatantly unconstitutional. And ineffective.

In fact, private ownership of the firearms Weingarten wants to ban has surged in the past two decades, including significant numbers of women. NSSF data has shown more than 30.7 million MSRs are in circulation since 1990 – more than the number of Ford F-150 pickup trucks on the road. Additionally, according to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports, data consistently shows that each year more murders are committed with knives, fists and clubs than by rifles of all kinds – including the MSR. Even more, data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) determined the 1994 federal ban did not reduce crime and the impact on gun violence of renewing it would be “too small for reliable measurement.

Groups Fund Gun-Grabs

The call by Weingarten to ban millions of lawfully owned firearms lines up perfectly with the groups with which she’s regularly associated. A Breitbart report recently confirmed what other media reported, that the AFT – led by Weingarten, herself – and a second major teachers union, the National Education Association (NEA), together donated nearly $50 million in hard political campaign dollars to various “Left-Wing” groups since 2022. One common goal shared by these groups is strict gun control, including pushing for a nationwide ban on so-called “military-style assault weapons.”

“According to the report, the unions funneled a combined $1.5 million to left-wing and dark-money groups such as the Tides Network, Sixteen-Thirty Fund, New Venture Fund, and Future Forward, a pro-Kamala Harris group,” Breitbart reported. “The report additionally found that the unions heavily funded groups that supported left-wing candidates in recent elections, giving significant sums to the Democratic Governors Association as well as the Democrats’ House Majority PAC and Senate Majority PAC. The unions also donated to left-wing think tank Center for American Progress and its 501(c)(4) arm, which bagged nearly one million dollars from the unions since 2022.”

Fox News also reported on those groups and how they are increasingly abandoning representing mainstream members – including those who are gun owners themselves – in favor of catering to the more progressive, antigun wing of their unions.

“Amid a trend of declining membership since the Supreme Court struck down mandatory union dues, the nation’s two largest teachers’ unions have poured tens of millions into left-wing causes,” Fox reported. As it turns out, when union members aren’t forced to pay dues out of their hard-earned paychecks towards unions who don’t represent them, they’ll up and leave – as they should.

That trend tracks with gun ownership more broadly across the country over the past few years as the gun owning community has become the most diverse in history – including more than 26 million new first-time gun owners since 2020. Many of those were politically independent and even Democratic-leaning. In fact, The Cut reported on the surge in African American women gun owners, deeming them the “new face” of American gun ownership.

Misguided and Unserious

Officials like Weingarten and other so-called leaders amongst these antigun groups are severely misguided and unserious about solving crime problems plaguing the nation’s cities – including near schools. Each and every incident like the Annunciation tragedy is horrific. What’s also horrific – and far, far more common – is criminal firearm misuse that happens weekly within major cities where criminals use illegally-obtained firearms to commit acts of violence. Even an NPR reporter – hardly a media outlet that favors gun rights – pressed former Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris on her ineffectual calls for an “assault weapons” ban.

“In cities like Philadelphia, handguns are responsible for most homicides and violent crime,” NPR’s Tonya Mosely began. “How will you address the issue of the use of handguns because a push for an assault weapons ban only addresses, um, a significant but small part of the problem?”

After the former vice president hemmed and hawed a bit, Mosely pressed again.

“Respectfully, we do understand that. But I’m asking specifically about handguns because many of those handguns aren’t purchased at places that run background checks. In many of those instances those handguns aren’t bought lawfully.”

Credit to Mosely for pressing someone on the misguided insistence on an unconstitutional gun ban while criminals continue to ignore those laws. Weingarten’s repeated calls for a so-called “assault weapon” ban continues to demonstrate she’s not serious about solving the issue. She’s the perfect unserious leader for an unserious organization not at all serious about protecting anyone – especially school children.

  1. Unpossiball!!! They don’t even have money for pencils. Students have to share the knife used to slit their wrists for the blood needed to write their homework! How could they launder $50 mil to PAC’s?

If they look hard enough they might find some of the 15%-30% of the students who dropped out, depending on city, pulling the trigger on those guns.

If teachers can blame gun owners then gun owners can blame teachers for criminal dropouts and illiterate “graduates” pushed through.

  2. This is the same insane woman: Head of the American Federation of Teachers Rani Weingarten, that promoted her new book and an educational philosophy about school choice that aligns with the actual Nazi party. The same woman who directed $50 million in tax payer funds and donations to go to left-wing causes supporting indoctrinating children in kindergarten into accepting they can be one of three different genders (trans boy-to-girl ,trans girl-to-boy, non-binary), directing that money to those causes while teachers are begging for school supplies (these funds were suppose to supply). The same woman who refused to endorse hardening schools with physical measures and armed ‘resource officers’ and objected to any sort of such response. The same woman who was behind supporting Waltz’s refusal in Minnesota to provide funding to catholic schools for hardening and armed security (which would have been ~$44.00 per student) when the state had billions of $$$ in surplus money and she supported Walz to spending that surplus on trans agenda and he did, the same trans agenda programs and trans-protection-laws that kept this Minnesota trans shooter from being ‘red flagged’. Yep, the same woman with blood of the innocent on her hands, the same woman who exploited each tragedy for more donations then spent the money on left-wing causes to support LGBTQ+ violent causes and LGBTQ+ violent groups across the country, the same causes and programs that protected this Minnesota trans killer, and the same woman that supports ‘abortion at birth’ (which in a sane world is called ‘murder’).

Won’t someone please think of the children and get rid of this evil incarnate woman before she gets more children killed.

    1. When the DOJ Wants a Piece of the Action.

“We have already talked about the momentous occasion, when DOJ filed an amicus brief on behalf of lawful and responsible gun owners in Illinois, but today DOJ has taken it one step further. Washington Gun Law President, William Kirk, discusses the bold move to request oral argument time before the 7th Circuit in the matter of Barnett v. Raoul, one of the many challenges to the Protect Illinois Communities Act (assault weapon ban and magazine ban). So learn what DOJ has done and why this too marks another momentous occasion…”

      1. Of course the teachers unions are against the proliferation of guns, especially in schools.

Only 20% of their membership thinks guns in schools would make them safer, a majority think it would make students less safe.

The unions are there to represent the members’ interests in the workplace, and with only 20% thinking guns make school safer it’s obvious they should support safety legislation.

          1. “You think it’s ‘twisted logic’ for a union to represent the interest of its members?”

            I did not say that.

You used a demented twisted left wing logic, and you don’t even realize it.

            Learn what context means.

        1. And 80% of teachers cannot comprehend basic biology and how mental illness doesn’t change it let alone teach students to a 1970’s standard what’s your point?

          1. 80% of teachers should probably not be teachers.

Once I had an actual history teacher argue with me, well, they argued actually and I didn’t, that John Adams WAS NOT one of the people who signed the Declaration of Independence. Yeah, they got fired later, for pushing ‘gender ideology, but the point is that a lot of teachers today don’t actually teach.

  3. Randi Weingarten’s job is to collect and distribute money. Other than that, she’s just like any other cookie-cutter Democrat politician. The author here is correct in calling her an unserious person. They’re never serious about solving real problems. Their job is to push the Democrat agenda, not solve problems. The only problems they want to solve is more money and power.

    1. Collect and distribute money?

No, her job is to represent the interest of the union membership, which she is doing just fine.

It is the Republicans and their supporters who are collecting and distributing money, and engaing in disgusting crimes:

“Who Is John Paulson? Key GOP Donor Listed In Jeffrey Epstein’s ‘Black Book,’ Claims Thomas Massie

      Authored by: Dimple Singh
      Updated Sep 5, 2025, 01:34 IST
Republican Representative Thomas Massie said billionaire John Paulson is a significant political donor linked to Jeffrey Epstein. Paulson, founder of Paulson & Co Inc, earned $5 billion in 2010 from event-driven investments.”

“Together with his spouse, Paulson contributed $831,370 to Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign. Paulson has been a major fundraiser for Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign. On April 6, 2024, the Trump campaign self-reported a $50.5 million fundraising haul at John Paulson’s Palm Beach house.“

Billionaire Republican pederasts giving millions to Epstein’d party buddy Donald Trump.

      jwm, there’s your ‘wealthy elites’.

      1. miner. gates, soros, zuckerberg, bernie, pelosi and the list goes on.

Your problem miner is you’re blind to all but your tds.

      2. She wasn’t making trips to Ukraine to work for her members. Try again.

Is John Paulson a union boss funneling money to Republicans. No? He’s a super rich dude donating and raising money for his preferred political party? What’s your point? You have none.

Miner, I’ll explain this one more time real slow like. There are wealthy people that donate to both political parties. That doesn’t matter. What matters is the bulk of the constituency. Democrats are the party of big city and coastal elites. The richest counties support Democrats, not Republicans. Did you see the stats I posted the last time you tried to claim that Republicans are the party of the rich? Dems lost the working class years ago, and they’re still leaving in droves to this day.

      3. Miner49er is having a left wing melt down temper tantrum because his false claims of Trump being part of the ‘Epstein’ ‘offenses’ have been debunked and shown to be false not only by there being no ‘list’ and no ‘evidence’ Miner49er claimed but by the ‘Epstein’ victims their selves some of which Miner49er and the rest of the collective left wing cabal of evil and mental illness claimed Trump comitted offenses against, and that Trump was right and telling the truth the whole time.

So of course Miner49er and the rest of the left wing are desperately straw grasping to try to put together desperate little pieces of random stuff to imply wrong doing where none exist by invoking the name ‘Epstein’.

Oooooo… the ominous ‘connected to Epstein’… left winger playing it up spin is back again with zero evidence of wrong doing to try in some way connect back to Trump.

Cry Miner49er…cry cry cry over that your tyrants Biden and Harris did not get back into office, that your ‘Maryland man’ love interest turned out to be the evil animal we told you he was, that your left wing mental illness is being exposed and showing their selves to be the mentally ill violent threats we have been saying they were, that Trump was right about sooo much.

Cry Miner49er…cry and keep your radical left winger mental illness TDS going to comfort you because like the rest of the mentally ill left wingers like you its all ya got. Are you planning to further victimize children again
Miner49er like you have in the past ’cause ‘orange man bad’?

You go ahead Miner49er…keep looking in the the mirror and chanting ‘I am the little girl Missy12, I really am’.

        1. Recent left-wing conspiracy theories
(Miner has pushed all of these except for maybe the last two)

Trump colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election.

          Trump is a Russian plant.

The fed govt (including Biden’s DOJ and James Comey’s daughter) hid Trump’s illicit activities connected to Epstein.

Police are out to get black people because they’re racist.

There is institutional racism, and it’s controlled by Republicans.

Trump hates Jews, he’s basically Hitler, and he thinks Nazis are “very fine people.”

Trump is telling people to inject bleach to fight Covid.

Trump wasn’t really shot in the ear or the entire assassination attempt was staged.

Trump is dead or on his deathbed.

        2. I left off a big one: the abortion scare If Republicans win in 2024. It’s funny how they pretty much stopped talking about that. It’s almost like it was a lie.

(I posted a conspiracy theory list that’s awaiting moderation.)
