SPEED BEEZ Lever Loader for the Ruger 10/22

I’ve literally spent decades loading mags by hand. I was certainly aware of mag loaders, but hadn’t really tried any until recently. Once I did I found myself wondering why I waited so long to do it. I have a few loaders now for AR’s, AK’s, and various pistols. When I got a Franklin Amory F22 pistol with binary trigger I knew I needed something for the 10/22 as well. After looking around I came across the SPEED BEEZ Lever Loader and decided to give it a shot.

The SPEED BEEZ Lever Loader

The Speed Beez Lever Loader is a rugged, American-made mag loader engineered for fast and easy reloading of Ruger 10/22 magazines. Speed Beez markets it specifically for the Ruger BX-25, BX-15 and BX-1 22LR magazines, although I used it with aftermarket magazines as well. Magazines lock into the loader and you load rounds by simply dropping them into the feed chute, then using the lever-action “scissors” motion to load the round into the magazine.

I used the Lever Loader on multiple range trips over the summer. I got it primarily to use with the Franklin Armory F22 since I knew I’d be burning through mags with the binary trigger. I also used it with my old stock Ruger 10/22 as well. I had a mix of factory BX-1 magazines, a BX-25 magazine, and a few High Tower Armory RM-25 windowed mags.

The loader is simple to use. I pretty much already explained it in the description of the loader. Just lock a mag into the loader, drop a round in the feed port and work the scissor action. It took me a second to get the rhythm of the scissor action, but you pick it up quickly. Once you do its fast to just drop rounds in and work the scissors to load them. There’s a video on the Speed Beez site which shows you how it works.

The mechanisms ensures consistent loading too, so you aren’t stacking rims. It’s much faster than thumbing rounds in by hand. It also puts much less stress on your hands and fingers. Young guys may scoff at that but when I crept past 50 I found arthritis and hand cramps to be a real thing. That was part of the reason for me to start looking at mag loaders.

While Speed Beez says that their loader is intended for Ruger magazines only, I had no issues using it with my High Tower Armory mags. They’re good mags and have always provided reliable feeding. They worked especially well with the F22 so I was glad to see that they were in fact compatible with the Lever Loader.

Load Faster, Shoot More

While mag loaders may not be a required item for the range, they sure do come in handy. With the Speed Beez Lever Loader I was able to spend more precious range time actually shooting, rather than sitting at the bench loading magazines. With a history or Trigger Finger and Carpal Tunnel I appreciated the lack of strain using the loader too. $34.95 is pretty reasonable for the convenience you get with the Lever Loader, and it’s nice to see it going to an American made product too.
