Jeremy and I spend a lot of time at the range shooting guns and testing gear for reviews. It’s a difficult, time-consuming job, but it must be done and we’re the ones who do it. That means we’re at Copperhead Creek Shooting Club a lot. It’s in beautiful Marble Falls, northwest of Austin, and it has great shooting facilities no matter what you’re shooting.

When we set up in one of their 100-yard bays, we usually have lots of guns and gear with us. And aside from a picnic table and a few plastic barrels, there isn’t anywhere in the bays to stow our guns. Which is why we bring this with us . . .

That, my friends, is the descriptively named Folding Metal Gun Rack from Hold Up Displays. Yes, it does exactly what its name implies. It’s a convenient, free-standing gun rack you can fold up and take anywhere.

Loosen a couple of tension screws and both the top and bottom racks come off. Rotate them 90 degrees and put ’em back on for a flat, easy-to-carry configuration you can slip behind a car seat or easily carry in your cargo area.

The rear “kick stand” support arm tilts out about 30 degrees when you want to stand the gun rack up and locks open with a little button tab, so it won’t collapse on you. The rack comfortably holds six long guns.

I’ve had this thing for years and it still shows virtually no signs of wear or tear. That’s because it’s made of powder-coated steel.

All of the contact points that touch your guns are rubber coated so you won’t mar your finishes, if that’s a worry.

Ultimately, this is a simple, well-designed, rugged piece of gear that does exactly what you need it to do. They even offer shorter add-on stands to hold SBRs if that’s something you need. It’s made in America of American materials by Americans. So if you spend much time shooting in places without racks to hold your guns, I can’t recommend this thing highly enough.

Price = $149

  1. This article looks like a good place to drop this –

    Can anyone offer any recommendations on an exceptionally-quiet .22LR suppressor now on the market?

    I know first-round ‘pop’ can’t be avoided, how about just noticeably quiet than the competitors in general?

    Thanks!

      1. Thanks, Dan, that’s on my shortlist for my Ruger Charger in .22 LR…

  2. I got one of these as a bonus when I ordered a couple of their wall-mount racks. The basic construction is the same, as far as the parts that support the rifle are concerned.

    Very solidly built, in my experience. Sturdy, reasonably rigid, padded where it’s needed. Would buy again, both the wall mount and the portable rack version. (Or, “overflow” if one happens to go on an AR building kick…)
