Her: Women Aren’t Trained Well Enough to Defend Themselves With Firearms

I’ve been a hunter, had a gun, had firearms in my home for about 30 years now. Kinda dates me a little bit. And I tell ya that every single time that I use my firearm I have to actually remember to train myself to say, ‘Where’s my safety’ and to take my safety off.

So as Representative Schultz says, when seconds matter, I would not have saved myself. Because every single time, re-practicing, taking off that safety in order to shoot my firearm safely takes me multiple seconds.

And so what they teach us in firearm training — and I’ve been through multiple ones, ’cause I’ve gone through hunter’s safety, my conceal and carry — I’ve done a number of these things. And I asked the instructor, I said, “How come every time I use my gun there’s this little knot in my stomach, that I feel scared to use my gun?” And he said, “That is very normal.”

And I said, “When will that knot go away?” And he said, “You have to practice, you have to shoot at least 1,000 rounds in your initial training, and then do 100 rounds per month in order maintain proficiency.”

I started adding up all the times I’ve actually used my gun. I don’t think in my lifetime I’ve shot 1,000 rounds. And so if I am somebody who is in danger, who is afraid for my life, my firearm is not going to save me. And like Representative Pinto said, people with firearms in their homes are more likely to get hurt themselves. That if seconds matter and I am afraid, I will very likely not be able to effectively use my firearm and that firearm will get used against me.

A hundred rounds per month! I think it’s challenging to even get out…I know some people do it. But when we’re talking about people who have active harassment restraining orders, people who may have experienced this, I’m not gonna guess numbers.”

  1. “I’ve spent 1000 hours over the last 30 years sitting at a piano and I can’t play a symphony!!”

People who spend no time training have no idea how much time people spend training.

  2. This is the most ridiculous psychobabble I have encountered a while. What is the point? “Hunter’s Safety”?
“Conceal and Carry”? Those are not training courses, those are block-checking exercises so bureaucrats can feel better.
Just because you are too weak and too ignorant to seek out and find legitimate training does not mean it does not exist.

  3. And I said, “When will that knot go away?” And he said, “You have to practice, you have to shoot at least 1,000 rounds in your initial training, and then do 100 rounds per month in order maintain proficiency.”
That instructor must own stock in ammo companies. It doesn’t take 1000 rounds to learn to shoot correctly, although it is a perishable skill, so regular training is certainly a good idea. At the same time, you aren’t training to be part of Seal Team 6, or Delta. Focus on the details: Grip, Sight Alignment, Trigger Press. The provided picture, though – oof.

Also, having a healthy respect for a firearm (the “knot” in the article) is not a bad thing. It should be a hard emotional barrier to kill someone. I’d be more worried about someone who doesn’t have that emotional barrier.

      Preach it, brother.

I’ve found myself not going places I may have gone before I started carrying, out of the extreme distaste I would have over having to stop an attacker…

  4. What a bunch of BS.

“That if seconds matter and I am afraid, I will very likely not be able to effectively use my firearm and that firearm will get used against me. ”

Yet, millions of times a year defenders that are afraid do use their firearms to effectively defend themselves, family, and others – both with and without training to do so. Just this year alone so far to date there have been thousands of such incidents nationwide where defenders were very afraid, terrified, and still used their firearms to effectively defend themselves, family, and others, for example this terrified Grandmother with no specific training for doing such > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzaZfb3Hj_E

If you did not have a firearm and had to use your hands or something else would you be just as afraid to use those to defend yourself?

You are an idiot. You supposedly “been a hunter, had a gun, had firearms in” your home for about 30 years now and “every single time that I use my firearm I have to actually remember to train myself to say, ‘Where’s my safety’ and to take my safety off”. Do you do that for your car, basically a 2,000 lbs rolling metal and plastic weapon? Yet you still do not know where the safety is on your own gun?

Not everyone is as stupid as you, because you are that stupid (or feigning stupid, and lying, for the sake of a gun control agenda) – you are not smart enough to be in office. How can anyone possibly believe that you, supposedly a gun owner for about 30 years and still doesn’t know where the safety is and too stupid to remember to take the safety off, how can anyone possibly believe you are suitable to hold elected office.

    1. Where’s the bathroom, where’s the bathroom!
A person who has been handling guns for 30 years and can’t remember “where’s my safety” has mental issues.
How does a person like this function at home or at the office?
She probably stinks due not being able to remember where or how to use toilet paper.

For her safety and others, it is is best she not handle guns. If she can’t remember where the safety is, then she will not remember the 4 rules of gun safety either.

Someone like that should only own revolvers…

  5. Setting women’s rights back a few hundred years female politician basically says … Women can’t have guns ’cause safeties are too complicated and women are not intelligent enough to figure it out and too stupid to defend them selves.
