Personal Defense: Would a Fabulously Bedazzled Pistol Play Better in a Jury Trial?

Hear me out on this. A while back I watched a TFBtv video where the argument was made that using a mini-14 instead of an AR-15 in a home defense situation has historically had better favor in court.

By that same logic, wouldn’t it be even better if the weapon shown in cort (sic) that you used to keep yourself alive was bedazzled in glitter and bright colors, looking as fabulous as possible?

It’s not a glock, it’s a rhinestone emblazoned brick of a pistol. It’s not a shotgun, it’s a pink pony club lead dispenser. It’s not a scary AR-15, it’s a pride flag mag holder.

Any flaws in this logic?

  1. yes, no question whatsoever. any juror would enjoy his time convicting someone of self defense more if such a device were part of the evidence. especially if it were passed around for inspection.

  2. I have heard the argument that you should carry a garishly colored (pink, teal?) gun. Sometimes people make false charges that you threatened them with a gun, with the inevitable description of it being black. If you pull out a pink My Little Pony special, the officer will wave you on. Yeah, I’m skeptical too.

  3. My personal favorite strategy is to build and use a Hello Kitty themed AR-15 for self-defense: no prosecutor in the world will be able to convince a jury that someone who built a Hello Kitty themed AR-15 was a macho Rambo wannabe looking to kill someone.

    1. I don’t know. If they’ve been paying attention lately, they might peg you as a future tranz mass shooter, or at the very least that you have a same secks* furry roommate.

  4. It is silly. But it is an accurate portrayal of the “heads I win, tails you lose” bind of using force in self-defense in many antagonistic jurisdictions.
But I would say that you’re best aided by ensuring your weapon is as effective as possible and you’re as competent with it as possible.
