2026 is here, and Taurus is coming out swinging with the new Taurus TX9 series of pistols. A 9mm chassis design, the TX9 incorporates previously perfected design features like the Taurus Optics Ready Option (T.O.R.O.), plus other features meant to meet NATO duty-pistol standards.

The new TX9 series will include a full-size, compact, and a subcompact design, all chambered in 9mm and sharing the same controls so that there’s familiarity for the end-user between the different-sized platforms.

All variants will also feature a modular grip system with interchangeable backstraps and utilize Taurus’s T.O.R.O. optics‑ready slide, allowing direct mounting of popular red‑dot optics.

Barrel lengths range from 4.5 inches on the full size model to 3.4 inches on the subcompact, with capacities of 17, 15, and 13 rounds, respectively. Each model maintains the same operating characteristics and control layout, emphasizing system commonality across duty, defense, and concealed‑carry roles.

From the official Taurus Press release on the TX9:

The TX9 represents a defining moment for Taurus,” said Bret Vorhees, CEO of Taurus Holdings, Inc. “It is our first dedicated duty pistol platform, built on the TX9 foundation shooters already trust and engineered from the ground up for professional-grade performance. By bringing that DNA into a 9mm duty system—and building it here in the USA—we’ve delivered a platform designed to perform across every role and every size.

Although Taurus is almost entirely focused on civilian sales here in the States, their handguns see wide duty use, primarily in Brazil, where various police and military units issue Taurus pistols such as the TS9 as standard sidearms. Beyond Brazil, Taurus has historically secured contracts or limited adoption with law enforcement and security forces in several Latin American, African, and Asian countries, often driven by the brand’s domestic production base, cost-effectiveness, and compatibility with NATO-style performance standards.

While exact current agency lists aren’t always made public, Taurus continues to produce its foreign duty-oriented models, especially full-size 9mm pistols, as service pistols for police and military clients worldwide. With Taurus USA, however, this step into a more “serious” duty grade realm is a clear first for them, one which we’ll be closely watching to see how they and their new breed of “professional grade” handguns, perform.
