In reply to <a href="https://www.shootingnewsweekly.com/gun-review/used-gun-counter-finds-the-gamers-smith-wesson-model-10-8/comment-page-1/#comment-185971">.40 cal Booger</a>.

The Model 10-8 was popular with law enforcement and civilian shooters back in the day, and still is among civilians although more of a niche thing today. So it probably, collectively, saw a lot of use. And someone just informed me that its still used today in competitions and service pistol matches. A lot of the 10-8's floating around today are originally police turn-ins so no telling how many others owned it after that turn in and then traded it or sold it or pawned it or it ended up at an LGS in the used gun section. Back in the day the Model 10-8 in its different iterations of barrel length and finishes was popular with law enforcement.

But yours is different with the modifications, it looks like it was combat-custom specific-purpose-modified .

You are correct, it looks like someone spent some money on it. Clark Custom Guns still does those types of mods today for the Model 10 series > for example > ht* tps://clarkcustomguns.com/custom-gun/revolver-custom-combat-swar-swcm/

The M10-8 was made from 1977 to 1988 (correction from my previous post, not 'early 1980's' but rather 1988).

"so it’s certainly not new or used in modern competitions. If anyone knows, please let me know where this type of revolver would have been used."

The Smith & Wesson Model 10-8 was produced 1977 - early 1980s. Its a variant of the Model 10 K-frame revolver with a heavy barrel configuration. It was produced with multiple barrel lengths and a few different finishes. Its use persisted after its production ended. It saw use in IDPA competitions in the late 1990's. It was also issued to baliffs in the courts in Georgia back in the 1980's, and was issued at various police departments around the country starting in the late 1970s into the 1990's.
