Angela Simmons Deeply Regrets Amplifying Her Beauty With a Gun-Shaped Purse

Angela Simmons BET Awards gun purse

Angela Simmons is apologizing for her accessory at the 2024 BET Awards, where she sported a bedazzled gun-shaped purse.

Following the backlash on social media, the 36-year-old entrepreneur and TV personality, took to Instagram to address the controversy sparked by her fashion statement.

“I want to address the recent incident involving the green purse I carried at the BET Awards,” Simmons wrote Monday on her Instagram story. “When I chose the purse, I believed it was cute and unique and I made a poor decision in using it as an accessory to amplify my beauty.”

She expressed her regret for the insensitivity of carrying an item that symbolizes a gun, particularly in light of her personal and community experiences with gun violence. Her former fiancé Sutton Tennyson, with whom she had a child in 2016, was killed in a shooting in 2018. Simmons said she “understands the pain and hurt this has caused.” …

“Gun violence is a disease that has taken too many lives, particularly among young people and Black men,” said Simmons, known for her role in the reality show “Run’s House.” “By carrying this purse, I did not intend to promote gun violence in any way. It was a mistake that does not define who I am or my commitment to ending gun violence.”

  1. Seems kinda racist to think a gun shaped purse would play well at the BET awards.
May as well have used a KFC bucket.

  2. “When I chose the purse, I believed it was cute and unique and I made a poor decision in using it as an accessory to amplify my beauty.”

And a lotttttt… of amplification it needed too.

An excuse for shallow morons with no real self esteem of their own, and it makes her look shallow and insecure in her own self-esteem.

She should have just said “When I chose the purse, I believed it was cute and unique and I made a poor decision in using it as an accessory.” and left out the “to amplify my beauty” part.

Oh boo hoo…some morons got all upset over a purse, get a real life people. Paying attention to and then complaining about a celebrity choice of attire or an accessory like a purse … stop being such a moron and get a real life

  3. “She expressed her regret for the insensitivity”
Wonder how the sensitive folk manage to enjoy a meal with all the knives etc on the table!
It’s difficult to be sensitive around those who are so sensitive.
Being insensitive………well that’s not out of the realm of possibilities.

    1. ‘sensitive’ over something that matters is a whole different animal from ‘sensitive’ over something that does not matter. The former is genuine and the latter is ‘manufactured’. Being ‘sensitive’ over the purse is manufactured.

    1. I didn’t know who she is/was, either, until this article. But methinks the purpose was more about getting her name splashed for clicks and eyeballz, rather than about some stylish purse kerfuffle. After all, now I’ve seen her face and name, and I’ll be remembering who she is from this point forward. Certainly.

      Oh wait…

  4. The issue at hand isn’t the fashion accessory or the predictable freak out. The story that matters is that she is under their control. They told her to jump, so she immediately jumped. This is about control. They’ll allow her some fame and fortune as long as she does what they want. She’s a slave.
